Nutrition and Slimming

To lose weight is to harmonise body composition and gain health, hence the importance of nutrition. There has been a growing awareness of the importance of nutrition for health and well-being. Nutritional imbalances – some due to deficiency, others due to excess – are a risk factor for various diseases. It is therefore essential to maintain a healthy diet that guarantees a balance of all nutrients.

There has been a growing awareness of the importance of food for health and well-being.

Nutritional imbalances – some due to deficiency, others due to excess – are a risk factor for various diseases. It is therefore essential to maintain a healthy diet that guarantees a balance of all nutrients.

The need to go on diets arises not only as a way of improving health, but also as a means of achieving the desired body image. In these cases, even if the goal is purely aesthetic, it must be achieved in a healthy and sustainable way.

Self-managed ‘miracle diets’ may result in rapid weight loss, but they can also be quick to recover from. The body tends to accumulate even more localised fat as soon as you return to your normal eating habits.

‘We are what we eat’

When slimming is well programmed, weight loss results from a healthy reduction in body fat, without loss of organic fluids, minerals and protein structures, such as skin, bone matrix, muscles, noble organs, etc.

Weight is reduced by rebalancing body composition, i.e. maintaining the normal ratio between lean mass and fat mass. As a result, there should be no mental disturbance or physical and intellectual fatigue. Many vital functions must be maintained, from the elasticity of the skin, nails and hair, muscle strength, bone mass, a strong immune system and the absence of cardiac and endocrine disorders.

A healthy diet adapted to each case not only alleviates the complications of a number of pathologies, but can also, on its own or with the help of appropriate appetite suppressants and physical exercise, lead to adequate weight loss that is maintained throughout life, improving the individual’s well-being and quality of life.

A diet carried out without the supervision of a multidisciplinary team could lead to serious nutritional imbalances, with consequent harmful effects on health, which could be irreversible.

WEIGHT LOSS PROGRAMME CONSISTS OF 3 STAGES

Any of the three stages described are equally important, so you should follow them with the utmost rigour.

    1. INITIATION

    The programme begins with a consultation with the nutritionist, during which a full individual assessment will be carried out:

    Body and bioimpedance assessment (weight, height, girth, fat mass, lean mass and total body water, etc.);

    Assessment of eating habits;

    Lifestyle assessment (physical activity, working hours, meal times, etc.).

    Dietary and therapeutic recommendations will be made on the basis of the data collected, taking into account age and ideal and/or target weight.

    Treatment is always personalised.

    2. ACTION

    Rigorous monitoring of body changes (weight, fat mass, lean mass and circumference) is carried out, as well as readjustments to the dietary and therapeutic indications initially prescribed. At this stage of treatment, the patient has the permanent help of our team.

    3. MAINTENANCE

      After reaching the reference weight, the maintenance process begins. You will be given adjusted dietary guidelines. This step is the most important and must be followed with the utmost rigour to avoid putting on weight again.
