High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound – HIFU
One of the latest innovations in body contouring is the technique that uses HIFU waves, also known as high-intensity focused ultrasound.
This treatment allows the elimination of adipocytes (fat cells) and localized fat.
In addition, the technique is also effective for facial toning.
Results can be noticed immediately and with minimal side effects.
INDICATIONS
HIFU technology is indicated for body contouring, treatment of localized fat and cellulite. In the case of facial rejuvenation, it is recommended for people over 30 years old, when some areas of the facial skin begin to appear more relaxed and less firm.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
HIFU technology works through the application of high-intensity focused ultrasound. These ultrasounds produce a thermo-mechanical effect, destroying fat tissue at the subcutaneous level without damaging surrounding tissues or the epidermis. It can also be applied to curved areas of the body such as the abdomen, hips and buttocks.
In turn, the ultrasonic waves increase body temperature, promoting contraction and restructuring of collagen and elastin molecules.
SIDE EFFECTS
It is a painless and non-invasive treatment, as it respects the superficial layers of the skin. No recovery period is required.
In some cases, redness may appear in the treated area, which usually disappears within a few hours.
Other side effects may include slight swelling in the treated area, a tingling sensation or sensitivity to touch. These symptoms usually disappear within a few hours. During the first 2 or 3 days, a mild muscle soreness may still be felt.
HOW MANY SESSIONS ARE REQUIRED?
The number of sessions required varies from person to person. However, the treatment usually involves between 2 and 3 sessions.
The results of HIFU waves can be noticed from the first session, whether for facial rejuvenation or body contouring. It should be noted that although results are visible early on, collagen restructuring takes about 21 days, meaning that final results are typically observed after 2 to 3 months.
In the case of facial HIFU treatments, the effects can last up to 6 months.
HIFU is contraindicated in the following situations: inflamed or burned skin, infections, wounds, tattoos, cholesterol disorders, and kidney or liver conditions.
